Leafs’ Nylander out vs. Canadiens due to potential COVID-19 exposure - Sportsnet.ca

Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander will not play in Wednesday's game against the Montreal Canadiens due to exposure to a possible positive COVID-19 case with a close contact outside the team.

The team said that Nylander is isolating and his situation will be re-evaluated Thursday, pending the results of further testing and has been added to the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list.

Nylander was on the ice for the Maple Leafs' morning skate Thursday, but Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports the early indication is the incubation period from when the 24-year-old's possible exposure to when he skated with his teammates isn't believed to have been long enough for him to be considered contagious.

Nylander has 13 goals and 30 points in 39 games this season. Alexander Barabanov will draw into the lineup with the star winger sidelined.

After consultation with the NHL, Wednesday's game between the Maple Leafs and Canadiens will continue as scheduled.
