It is not a Taylor Hall-level splash. But the Maple Leafs made a useful addition up front on Friday night.

And they did it for next to nothing.

The Leafs picked up Riley Nash from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick in 2022. (The condition? The pick becomes a sixth rounder if Nash plays in a quarter of the Leafs’ postseason games in 2021.)

Nash is likely done for the regular season.

The 31-year-old shutdown centre suffered a sprained knee last weekend and will be sidelined the next four to six weeks. But the regular season isn’t the point of the deal.
