It was a steady start for Rory McIlroy on Thursday at the Masters Tournament as he parred his first four holes.
And then he bogeyed No. 5 and No. 6 and No. 7. The latter of which came after he hit his father on the left leg with an errant approach shot.
Turns out, Rory was aiming for his dad, Gerry.
"In fairness I was trying to turn it off. It was a perfect shot; it was dead straight," Rory said after shooting 4-over 76. "But I think he was OK. He didn't limp away. He walked away pretty swiftly, so that was all right."
Normally, when a player hits a spectator, the player signs a glove or a ball for the injured fan. Rory's gift for his dad?
"He's seen me sign plenty of stuff over the years, so I think that's the least of his worries," Rory said. "I think he just needs to go and put some ice on - maybe I'll autograph a bag of frozen peas for him."
