Just about 100 days since the Canadiens had to watch their opponent hoist the Stanley Cup, the team is back to start another season, hoping to be the ones claiming the silverware. The task is much more difficult with the roster turnover the team saw in the off-season, and even after the departures of some players there are some big names missing from the revamped roster.
Tonight there will be no Carey Price between the pipes, no Joel Edmundson who had such an exceptional season and then post-season in his first year wearing a Canadiens jersey, and no Mike Hoffman who was brought in to help the team finally become a consistent power-play threat across two units.
The Leafs are also missing Auston Matthews, though he’s sure to be mentioned plenty of times on the broadcast this evening. Their big additions were Nick Ritchie, who showed his talents in the pre-season when the two teams clashed, and the 26-year-old Michael Bunting who arrives from the Arizona Coyotes organization.
No matter the lineups the teams dress, the games between the clubs tend to be close, with plenty of goals especially in the opening contests of the season. Tonight’s is sure to follow that same trend, with perhaps some new names on the scoresheet for both sides.
