Flames’ Rasmus Andersson fined $5K for roughing Oilers’ Yamamoto - Sportsnet.ca

Calgary Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson has been fined $5,000 by the NHL, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for roughing Edmonton Oilers forward Kailer Yamamoto.

The incident occurred late in the first period with the Oilers leading 1-0. Andersson took issue with Yamamoto after he got close to Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom in the crease.

He then proceeded to throw an elbow at Yamamoto’s head and appeared to lead head first, using his helmet, while pushing the Oilers forward up against the boards.

Andersson addressed media on Sunday and denied any claim that he headbutted Yamamoto.

"The was no headbutt," he said. "I got a $5,000 fine for roughing, not a headbutt, so in my opinion, I didn't try or I didn't headbutt him."

The Flames defenceman received elbowing and roughing penalties on the play.
