Montreal Canadiens defenceman Ben Chiarot has suffered a fractured right hand, coach Dominique Ducharme told reporters on Thursday.
Chiarot will be examined by team doctors in the coming days, which should help establish the timeline of his recovery.
During Wednesday night's game versus the Vancouver Canucks, Chiarot fought J.T. Miller in the first period and had to exit the game. He appeared to be in some discomfort after punching Miller's helmet with his right hand, and threw his helmet at the ground in frustration as he left the bench.

Chiarot, 29, has five points (one goal, four assists) through 24 games in his second season with the Canadiens.
Montreal plays its third game of a six-game road trip at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday night against the Calgary Flames.
