TORONTO – Jack Campbell will own the Toronto Maple Leafs’ net for the foreseeable future.
Frederik Andersen, the club’s go-to No. 1 goaltender for five seasons, has not skated alone nor with the club since losing to the Calgary Flames on March 19.
Andersen is dealing with a re-aggravated lower-body injury.
“He's had different examinations, but he's not on the ice, so his return is not imminent,” Keefe said Saturday morning. “But we expect an update in the coming days."
Campbell takes a perfect 5-0-0 record into Saturday night’s home game against starter Mike Smith and the Edmonton Oilers.
Andersen, 31, is 13-8-2 on the season with a career-low .897 save percentage. He acknowledged he was playing through a degree of pain earlier this month. He is in the final season of his five-year contract with the Maple Leafs.
“I know I have the ability to be a great goalie in this league and help a team win a ton of hockey games. I think it’s just a matter of finding that confidence again,” Andersen said on March 18. “And I know it’s right there.”
