Blue Jays’ Davis makes opening day roster; Springer still day-to-day - Sportsnet.ca

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jonathan Davis has made the team's opening day roster, manager Charlie Montoyo announced on Saturday.

Davis is slashing .323/.432/.484 with one home run and four RBI in 37 plate appearances across 16 spring training games in 2021. He played in 13 games for Toronto during the 2020 campaign.

Additionally, Montoyo added that star free-agent signing George Springer remains day-to-day due to a Grade 2 oblique strain.

Springer had been dealing with abdominal tightness before an MRI earlier this week revealed the Grade 2 strain. While GM Ross Atkins said on Tuesday that Springer's symptoms were "incredibly encouraging," Springer's status remains up in the air for opening day.

Montoyo also revealed on Saturday that pitcher Robbie Ray would miss his first start of the season because of a bruised elbow he suffered when he slipped on stairs in his home.

According to Montoyo, per Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling, the Blue Jays are still weighing their options regarding who will cover Ray's outing.

The Blue Jays get the 2021 season underway on Thursday against the New York Yankees, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET/10:05 a.m. PT on Sportsnet.
