Here are five things you should know about the Canadiens-Maple Leafs game at Scotiabank Arena Saturday (7 p.m., CBC, Sportsnet, TVA Sports, TSN-690 Radio).
The matchup: The Canadiens will be looking for redemption as they meet the Maple Leafs after dropping a 4-2 decision at the Bell Centre Wednesday. This will be the third of 10 meetings this season between these traditional rivals and the Leafs have had the upper hand since opening the season with a 5-4 overtime win in Toronto. The victory on Wednesday allowed the Leafs to open a five-point gap on the Canadiens in the battle for first place in the NHL’s Canadian division with 23 points. The Leafs have won four in a row, while Montreal is on a two-game skid after being shut out 3-0 by Edmonton on Thursday.
Let it all hang out: This is Montreal’s third game in four nights, but the Canadiens won’t have any excuse for not leaving it all on the ice. While the 56-game schedule is condensed, the league has left several empty pockets in the schedule to accommodate any games that have to be postponed because of COVID-19. That hasn’t been a problem in Canada, and as a result, the Canadiens won’t play again until next Saturday when they make another trek to Toronto. The break will allow coach Claude Julien to hold a mini training camp to sort out his team’s problems.

Third time lucky for Price? If the Canadiens were a meritocracy, Jake Allen would be starting in goal because he has had the hot hand this season. But Carey Price will probably start even though he has lost his two previous starts against the Leafs this season. Frederik Andersen will get the start almost by default even if he didn’t have a 2-0-0 record against the Canadiens this season. Andersen has played 12 of 14 games this season and the Leafs will ride him until Jack Campbell returns from a leg injury.
Petry leads offence: Defenceman Jeff Petry is off to a fast start and has been scoring at a point-a-game pace and leads the Canadiens with 14 points. He has six goals, which ties him with Edmonton’s Darnell Nurse for the most goals by a defenceman. Petry has also been taking care of his own end and is a plus-12, second only to defence partner Joel Edmundson, who is plus-14. Newcomers Josh Anderson and Tyler Toffoli each have nine goals to share the team lead. Anderson has scored three of his goals against the Leafs.

Matthews held in check: The Leafs’ Auston Matthews is the league’s leading goal scorer with 11, but the Canadiens held him off the board Thursday to snap his eight-game goal-scoring streak. Matthews has 12 career goals in 16 games against Montreal, but has been limited to two assists in the two games this season. Toronto’s other major scoring threat is Mitch Marner, who is No. 3 in the NHL scoring race with 21 points. Montreal has held him to one assist this season and he has 13 points — all assists — in 16 career games against the Canadiens. This game is part of Hockey Day in Canada which, for the 11th consecutive year, will not originate in Quebec.
