Terence Davis moved a step closer to being cleared of several criminal charges on Friday.
The district attorney’s office in New York dismissed five of seven charges against the Raptors guard and granted what’s known as an “Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal” for two others.
If Davis has no further arrests and fulfils an order of protection for the next year, charges of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief will be dismissed.
The charges stem from an incident involving Davis and a woman at a New York City hotel in October.
The original criminal complaint alleged Davis hit the woman in the face, broke her phone, and caused her and a child to fall.
Davis, however, still faces possible discipline from the NBA. Under terms of a domestic abuse policy between the league and the players’ association, he could face a fine or suspension.
The investigation is not yet complete, a Raptors official said.
And because that probe continues and is binding on both Davis and the team, the Raptors had no comment on Friday’s court proceedings.
The team is also beholden by whatever that NBA/NBPA investigation decides about any discipline.
