In a shortened, 56-game season where fan attendance will be either limited or, in most places, non-existent to start the campaign, the NHL and its teams will be trying new ways to bring in revenue.
One such way was announced on Tuesday, with the league re-naming each of its four realigned divisions for the coming season. It's believed that these names will be for the current season only.
The regionalized names have been added to with sponsorships:
• Scotia NHL North Division (Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg)
• Honda NHL West Division (Anaheim, Arizona, Colorado, Los Angeles, Minnesota, San Jose, St. Louis, Vegas)
• Discover NHL Central Division (Carolina, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Florida, Nashville, Tampa Bay)
• MassMutual NHL East Division (Boston, Buffalo, New Jersey, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington)
And those aren't all the new sponsorship engagements you may notice this season. Teams have also been permitted to sell ad space on their helmets and nearly half the league has unveiled who those sponsors will be, and what those decals will look like.
Here is a rundown of the ads that have started to appear on helmets:
