NHL prospect pool rankings: No. 13 Toronto Maple Leafs - The Athletic

Welcome to Scott Wheeler’s 2021 rankings of every NHL organization’s prospects. The series, which includes my own evaluations and commentary from coaches and staff on more than 500 prospects, runs from Jan. 11 to Feb. 9.

Short of adding a top-10 draft pick, the Leafs’ prospect pool has improved year-over-year as much as any system in the league.

There are 10 new players ranked here who weren’t on last year’s list, including eight of the Leafs’ 12 selections in the 2020 draft (I almost included Ryan Tverberg as a ninth) and two more additions via trade (Filip Hållander and Joey Anderson).

While the Leafs don’t have one of the game’s true star prospects, their group of prospects is now as deep as almost any in the NHL. There are prospects ranked closer to the tail end of this...
