But save some praise for Jake Evans as well.

He contributed to his team’s total shut down of Edmonton’s two stars despite playing under 10 minutes Monday night. Almost half of that time was spent on the penalty kill, which was a perfect 10-for-10 against the Oilers over the last two games.

Julien clearly trusts Evans if he’s willing to have him defend against McDavid and Draisaitl.

“You hope that’s going to continue as he gains more experience and we move forward,” Julien said. “We’ll be able to utilize him even more in those kinds of situations.”

We should note this important fact as well: the Oilers didn’t get much help from anyone against the Canadiens.

Slater Koekkoek and Devin Shore were the only goal scorers for Edmonton through six periods against Montreal. Oilers goalie Mikko Koskinen looked shaky between the pipes, allowing eight goals through two games. 

Edmonton fans may want to erase these games from their memory. They will also have questions about the construction of their team beyond their two star players.

Montreal fans, however, can feel comfortable knowing their team had no problem putting two of the best players in the world in their back pocket.
