Bryson DeChambeau sits as narrow favourite on Masters odds - Sportsnet.ca

Bryson DeChambeau will be looking for a second straight major win when he tees off later this week as a +800 favourite on the odds to win the Masters at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

DeChambeau has been outstanding since the PGA Tour resumed back in June, cracking the top 10 on seven occasions and tallying a pair of victories, including his first career major at the U.S. Open. The 27-year-old has been idle since his last outing in early October, when he shot a first-round 62 on his way to an eighth-place finish at the Shriners Hospital for Children Open.

However, DeChambeau has turned in middling results in two previous appearances as a pro at the Masters, failing to come close to his 21st-place debut performance at Augusta in 2016, which earned him low amateur honours.

Currently the world’s top-ranked golfer, Dustin Johnson sits second to DeChambeau as a +900 wager on the Masters odds at sports betting sites. Jon Rahm follows at +1000, ahead of Justin Thomas at +1100, and Rory McIlroy at +1200.

Johnson displayed no ill effects from his recent bout with COVID-19 while claiming a share of second place at this past weekend’s Vivint Houston Open. The 36-year-old has now finished in the top two in five of his past six outings, including victories at the Northern Trust and TOUR Championship that lifted him to his first-ever FedEx Cup championship win. Johnson has also been a consistent threat at Augusta in recent years, recording top-10 finishes in each of his past four appearances, including a run to second at last year’s Masters.

Rahm bounced back from a sloppy start to the 2021 golf season with a second-place performance at last month’s ZOZO Championship. And while he turned in a disappointing 23rd-place finish at the U.S. Open, he has otherwise impressed on the big stage. The young Spaniard earned the win at both The Memorial Tournament and the BMW Championship, and finished in the top 10 in his past two Masters appearances.

Things haven’t gone quite so well for Rory McIlroy ahead of his bid for his first career green jacket. Perched atop the golf rankings prior to the recent pause in the PGA Tour schedule, McIlroy has struggled since returning to action, cracking the top 10 just twice in 12 outings, with his best showing coming at the U.S. Open where he tied for eighth place.

Further down the Masters betting lines for this week, Xander Schauffele lags at +1400, followed by Brooks Koepka at +1600 on those golf odds, while defending Masters champion Tiger Woods sits well back of the favourites, joining PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa, Jason Day, Matthew Wolff, and Webb Simpson at +3300.
