Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson is expected to miss the 2020-21 season after suffering a torn right Achilles tendon, the team announced on Thursday.
On Wednesday, it was reported that Thompson suffered a leg injury during a workout in Southern California, with an MRI scheduled for Thursday morning.
News of the season-ending Achilles injury deals a devastating blow to Thompson and the Warriors, after the 30-year-old shooting guard missed the entire 2019-20 season with a torn ACL suffered during Golden State's 2019 NBA Finals loss to Toronto.
With both Thompson and Steph Curry unavailable in 2019-20 — the latter suffering a hand injury early in the campaign — the Warriors endured their worst season of the Splash Brothers era, finishing with the worst record in the league and missing the post-season for the first time in six years.
Prior to this recent spell of injury, Thompson's enjoyed a dominant near-decade in the league, amassing three championships, five all-star nods, and a slew of regular season and post-season scoring records.
Per Wojnarowski, Thompson has been told he's expected to make a full recovery, based on the type of tear he's suffered.
