Troy Terry scored on a breakaway at 10:10 of the third period to snap a 2-2 tie and propel the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-2 win over the Canadiens at the Honda Center on Sunday.

Terry got behind defender Alexander Romanov as he took a bump pass from Ryan Getzlaf and went in alone of Sam Montembeault.
The Getzlaf assist gave him 989 points and he moved past Teemu Selanne as Anaheim’s all-time leading scorer.
Montembeault played better than he did in his Canadiens debut against Buffalo on Oct. 14, but he had no answer on the winning goal as Terry faked going to the five-hole and swung to his left and put the puck behind the goalie.

Sam Carrick completed the scoring with an empty-net goal.
The Canadiens were fortunate to come out of the first period trailing 2-1 because they were shorthanded for seven minutes and 24 seconds, including a period of 1:32 when they were short two men.

Brett Kulak went off for holding the stick at 1:43 of the first period and Anaheim took the lead when Adam Henrique beat Montembeault with four seconds remaining in the penalty.
Mike Hoffman got that one back when he beat John Gibson on a power play at 4:12. He scored with a one-timer off a feed from Chris Wjdeman. Jonathan Drouin earned the second assist by winning a faceoff to set the pay in motion.
It was only the fourth power-play goal for the Canadiens this season and Hoffman has two of them and has scored in four of the past five games. The Canadiens were 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Ducks were 2-for-6.
The Canadiens were shorthanded in more than one way after Cédric Paquette drove Trevor Zegras’s face into the glass midway through the period. Paquette was assessed a five-minute major for boarding as well as a game misconduct.

Vinni Lettieri scored a power-play goal to restore the Anaheim lead, but the Montreal penalty-kill did the job after Artturi Lehkonen took a holding penalty to give Anaheim the two-man advantage. The Ducks had only two shots during the 5-on-3. Kevin Shattenkirk assisted on both of the Anaheim power-play goals and leads NHL defencemen with 10 points.
There were a couple of firsts as Jake Evans tied the game at 18:05 of the second period. It was the first goal of the the season for Evans, who returned to the lineup after missing four of the previous six games with an injury. He was in front to bury the rebound of a shot by Jeff Petry that changed direction several times on its way to the net. Petry, who was one of the top-scoring defencemen in the NHL last season with 42 points, picked up an assist for his first point this season.
Montreal’s troubles began before the opening faceoff. The team announced Mathieu Perreault will be out for two to three weeks with a detached retina and Brendan Gallagher left the pregame warmup and was scratched with an undisclosed injury.
The Canadiens return to the Bell Centre for five games beginning Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings (7 p.m., TSN2, RDS, TSN 690 Radio, 98.5 FM).
