Maple Leafs reacquire Kyle Clifford from Blues for future considerations - The Athletic

The Toronto Maple Leafs brought back forward Kyle Clifford in a trade with the St. Louis Blues for future considerations, adding a familiar and physical presence to the organization. Clifford, who had one assist in two games with St. Louis this season, had been put on waivers by the Blues on Monday and cleared Tuesday.

This will be Clifford’s second stint with the organization. Clifford and goaltender Jack Campbell were traded by the Kings to the Maple Leafs in February of 2020 in exchange for Trevor Moore and two draft picks.

Clifford had three points and 23 penalty minutes with the Maple Leafs in 16 games in 2020. He won two Stanley Cup championships with the Kings, in 2012 and 2014, and was known for his hard-nosed play and grit. He has 872 penalty minutes in 728 career games in the NHL.

Toronto had attempted to re-sign Clifford after the 2019-20 season but it didn’t work out, according to The Athletic's James Mirtle. Clifford signed with the Blues as a free agent and had seven points (four goals, three assists) in 50 games and 30 penalty minutes.
