Toronto Blue Jays star outfielder George Springer was lifted from Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles in the seventh inning after appearing to have some leg discomfort while running the bases.
Springer was replaced by pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson. The team later announced he was removed as a precaution.
The 31-year-old has battled a number of injuries this season, including a knee injury from which he had just returned on Monday. When healthy, the team's big free agent addition has been one of the hottest hitters in the American League and was twice named AL Player of the Week earlier in the summer.
Earlier Tuesday, the Blue Jays announced free agent outfielder Gregory Polanco to a minor-league contract. Polanco, along with Dyson -- who was claimed off waivers from the Royals last week -- give the Jays more depth as Springer limps towards the end of the season.
