Patriots kicker Quinn Nordin reportedly heading to injured reserve - Pats Pulpit

The New England Patriots are expected to place rookie kicker Quinn Nordin on injured reserve in advance of Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET matchup with the New York Jets, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Nordin, 23, had been ruled out on the final injury report of the week after an abdomen injury left the undrafted arrival limited on Thursday and sidelined on Friday.

“The hope is that, by November, he’s back and able to kick,” Rapoport said of Nordin, who would be eligible to return after a minimum of three games.

Nordin made New England’s 53-man roster following a preseason in which he went 6-of-8 on field goals and 4-of-7 on extra points with longs of 48 and 50 yards. The Michigan product would then be among the inactives in the opener versus the Miami Dolphins.

In Nordin’s absence, Nick Folk served as a standard elevation from the practice squad. The veteran kicker converted each of his three field goals and lone extra point in the 17-16 loss before reverting along with backup quarterback Brian Hoyer.

Placing Nordin on injured reserve would open a second spot on the active roster for both recent elevations from the scout team, which currently stands at 16.

No impending moves made the NFL transaction wire for the Patriots on Friday.
