In a game both that saw both teams start slowly, the Toronto Raptors weren't able to keep pace, losing to the Golden State Warriors 90-84 in Summer League play on Wednesday night.
Toronto led after the first quarter, 19-17, despite shooting just 27.3 per cent from the floor -- a trend that would continue throughout the game and eventually prove costly.
Golden State went on to outscore the Raptors 49-37 in the second and third quarters, building a lead they would not relinquish.
There were bright spots in the night despite its final score, though.
Precious Achiuwa, who the Raptors acquired in the blockbuster deal that sent Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat, made his Summer League debut for the team, playing 28:10, the most of any Raptor. The 21-year-old scored 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while hauling in 11 rebounds -- five of them coming on the offensive glass.
Malachi Flynn shot 6-of-19 from inside the arc and 3-of-8 from beyond for a total of 16 points, the most on the team. He picked up only one assist, however, while committing two turnovers.
Scottie Barnes, the Raptors' top pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, showed flashes of the potential the team saw him as a fourth-overall selection once again.
In 25:16 of playing time, Barnes picked up 13 points, eight rebounds and one assist.
With the loss, Toronto is now 1-1 in Summer League competition. The Raptors' next game takes place tomorrow night against the Houston Rockets.
