Maple Leafs acquire Galchenyuk from Carolina in depth move - Toronto Sun

Forward Egor Korshkov, defenceman Warsofsky go other way in swap

The Maple Leafs were running lower on patience with depth scoring than first thought.

Just before Monday’s game, they acquired left winger/centre Alex Galchenyuk from the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Egor Korshkov and defenceman David Warsofsky.

Galchenyuk, 27, played eight games for the Senators this season, with one goal, before being swapped to the ‘Canes on Saturday so Ottawa could re-acquire forward Ryan Dzingel.

Galchenyuk’s 557 career regular-season games with Montreal (which drafted him third overall in 2012), Arizona, Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Ottawa has yielded 321 points (136 goals, 185 assists) with 13 points in 32 playoff games.

Galchenyuk was taken two places ahead of Toronto defenceman Morgan Rielly in 2012 and in previous deals has been moved to Arizona for Max Domi and Pittsburgh for Phil Kessel.

Korshkov is a big winger who was Toronto’s pick at 31st overall after Auston Matthews went No. 1 in 2016, but his skating had limited his NHL progress. He had one goal in one game last season for Toronto.
