Montreal Canadiens defenceman Victor Mete will make his season debut Monday, just days after his trade request was made public.
Mete's agent Darren Ferris confirmed to The Canadian Press Saturday that his client was looking for a change of scenery. Mete has been a healthy scratch for the first eight games of the season.
The 22-year-old is in his fourth season with the Canadiens and was on pace for his most productive campaign last season before injuries and the pandemic limited him to only 51 games. Over the off-season, the Canadiens added Joel Edmundson via trade and promoted prospect Alexander Romanov to the lineup, pushing Mete down the depth chart. Mete will be paired with Romanov to start Monday's game while Brett Kulak will sit as a healthy scratch.
In other Canadiens lineup news, Josh Anderson will play Monday after being lifted from Saturday's loss to the Calgary Flames with flu-like symptoms. Julien confirmed that Anderson tested negative for COVID-19 on Sunday. Carey Price will start in net Monday after Jake Allen played on Saturday.
