Canadiens earn tough 2-1 rebound win against Senators - Montreal Gazette

Article content

The Canadiens got back on the winning track Saturday, but Ottawa goaltender Matt Murray didn’t make it easy for them.

Murray, who was the difference Thursday when the Senators upset the Canadiens 3-2 at the Bell Centre, turned in another strong performance, but Montreal’s Jake Allen was a tad better as the Canadiens avenged the loss Thursday wth a 2-1 win at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Josh Anderson snapped a 1-1 tie when he scored his eighth goal of the season early in the third period. Murray, who has looked like the goaltender who helped the Pittsburgh Penguins win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017, made Montreal work for the go-ahead goal.

Jeff Petry, who scored Montreal’s first goal, sent Jonathan Drouin on a breakaway. Murray stopped Drouin’s shot and turned away the rebound effort by Nick Suzuki, but Anderson was good on the third attempt.

The victory was coach Claude Julien’s 200th behind the Canadiens bench.
