He was asking over $2 million. He needed to hit the open market to realize he wasn’tgetting it. The Sabres were willing to give him twice what he got, but that was before Hall. I wouldn’t have signed 28, especially for what he got and signed Kahun.

Contract aside, Kahun’s a great fit for the Oilers in a bunch of different ways. He shores up LW, he’s a 5v5 scorer (where they most need the help) and presumably frees up Nugent-Hopkins for the McDavid line.

The news I’ve been waiting to hear for weeks now. Dominik Kahun is an Edmonton Oiler.
In terms of value for money, this is one of the best signings of the offseason. To make things even better, he’s an RFA after his deal expires.
Kahun and Puljujarvi are genuine candidates to put up 40+ 5v5 points this upcoming season, assuming they play with McDavid.
Imagine that as well as the DRY line 🥵
I know everyone wants the German’s to be played on the same line, but for me, I want to reunite the DRY line and play Kahun with McDavid and Puljujarvi. Kahun – McDavid is just a more natual fit imo.

Just spoke with Kahun, who is eager to come over and try to rekindle chemistry with Leon Draisaitl, with whom he has played junior and internationally in/for Germany. He is a skilled forward, more passer than shooter. But chemistry on big Euro ice does not always translate to NHL. If Kahun is going to mesh with Draisaitl, he’ll have to play more in traffic than he did in CHI, PIT or BUF. Draisaitl has the puck on this line, and Kahun will have to go to where goals get scored… No reason Kahun can’t find chemistry with Draisaitl, and that will free Nugent-Hopkins to play regularly with McDavid. Kassian works as RW with two top players like 93 and 97, and Yamamoto is the fixture on 29’s right side, perhaps Puljujarvi in a pinch. Adding another skilled LW means more depth. I see RNH as the “fireman” who shifts in to help 97 or 29, while Kahun, Ennis, or Nygard/Benson rotate through Top 6 LW.
