Canadiens sign free-agent Tyler Toffoli to four-year, $17-million deal - Montreal Gazette

The Canadiens announced Monday afternoon that they have agreed to terms on a four-year, US$17-million contract with free-agent forward Tyler Toffoli.

The deal has an annual salary-cap hit of $4.25 million. With the signing, the Canadiens no longer have any salary-cap space remaining for next season, according to CapFriendly.com.

The 28-year-old Toffoli, a 6-foot, 197-pound right-winger, posted 24-20-44 totals in 68 games last season split between the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks.

The Canucks acquired Toffoli from the Kings on Feb. 17 in exchange centre Tyler Madden, who spent last season with Northeastern University, centre Tim Schaller, a second-round pick at this year’s NHL Draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2022. Toffoli had 6-4-10 totals in 10 regular-season games with the Canucks and added 2-2-4 totals in seven playoff games during the final season of his three-year, US$13.8-million contract with a $4.6 million salary-cap hit. Toffoli missed 10 postseason games with an ankle sprain.
