‘I’m fat’ – Scottie Scheffler rival took bizarre lesson from golfer’s arrest report... - talkSPORT

Golfer Mark Hubbard had perhaps the best reaction to Scottie Scheffler's rap sheet after the world No.1 got arrested.

Hubbard and Scheffler are both three shots off the lead held by Xander Schauffele at the PGA Championship, although they had very different days on Friday.

While world no.83 Hubbard quietly made himself an unlikely contender at the second major of the year, Scheffler found himself in the middle of the most dramatic sports story of the year so far.

The 27-year-old was detained by police after a chaotic traffic misunderstanding just hours before his second round tee time.

Scheffler was put in a jail cell, had his mug shot taken, got hit with four charges, but still played quite brilliantly in round two despite everything.

After his rap sheet went viral, most of the world were stunned to see the unassuming golfer had been charged with second degree assault of a police officer, third degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.

However, it was a separate detail that caught Hubbard's attention.

Before his round, Hubbard took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: "No f-ing way Scottie only weighs 170… f*$& I’m fat."

Indeed, the official police report had Scheffler's weight listed at 170lbs.

Online profiles of Scheffler previously had his weight down as 200lbs - and Hubbard was not the only tour professional left in shock by the real figure.

Golfer Michael S. Kim responded: "Thought the same thing! (About Scottie’s weight, not yours Mark)."

Hubbard is three inches shorter than Scheffler at 6ft 0ins - and unconfirmed reports online have his weight at 175lbs, which would make him 5lbs heavier than the world No.1.

Scheffler spoke of his shock, confusion and fear during yesterday's astonishing incident, but still managed to assert his dominance on the course and shoot a stunning 66.

Meanwhile, Hubbard's brother Nathan revealed that they swapped seats in the car on their way to Valhalla Golf Club after learning about Scheffler's run-in with the cops.

Nathan Hubbard tweeted: "Not kidding we just switched who is driving on our way to the course so that I’m the one who gets arrested."

Speaking after the round, Mark Hubbard was just delighted to put himself in a rare spot at a major championship.

“Going into the week I felt like this was the first time my game was in a position where I felt like I could do that, whereas before I just showed up and have been kind of happy to be there,” he said of contending.

“I think that showed just from a mental standpoint and confidence standpoint. I think this is a good major course for me. There’s so many that aren’t.”
