Report: Hill traded to Dolphins for 5 picks, signs $120M deal - theScore

The Kansas City Chiefs traded star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks after reportedly hitting an impasse in contract talks.

Kansas City received a first-round pick (No. 29 overall), a second-round selection (No. 50 overall), and a fourth-round choice in 2022, plus fourth- and sixth-round picks in 2023.

Hill will sign a four-year, $120-million extension with Miami and get $72.2 million guaranteed, his agent told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Chiefs granted Hill's agent permission to seek a trade once extension negotiations stalled, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The 28-year-old had one year left on his deal for over $18 million. He strove to beat the five-year, $141.25-million contract that Davante Adams signed with the Las Vegas Raiders after his trade from the Green Bay Packers, which contributed to his breakup with the Chiefs, per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

The Dolphins and New York Jets both vied for Hill after the Chiefs made him available. Kansas City reportedly had trade agreements in place with both clubs and allowed Hill to pick his destination.

Hill served as a centerpiece of the prolific offense in Kansas City. He led the team in receiving in three of the last five seasons, and his unrivaled speed made him the NFL's most feared vertical threat. Hill caught a career-high 111 passes for 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns last season, adapting his game as defenses committed more safety help to the deep portions of the field.

"I am happy for Tyreek, he has grown as a man and player here in Kansas City," head coach Andy Reid said in a news release. "Myself, my staff, and our organization appreciate all he did for our team. This move will also benefit the Chiefs, we now have cap space and additional draft picks to grow as a football team. I wish him well as he moves forward."

The Chiefs, whose high-flying offense has powered them to six straight division titles and one Super Bowl championship, are left with tight end Travis Kelce and free-agent signee JuJu Smith-Schuster to anchor their receiving corps.

Miami will add Hill to a nucleus that contains dynamic second-year wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and third-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins agreed to a big-money deal with free-agent left tackle Terron Armstead on Tuesday, acquiring another foundational piece for an offense looking to break out under new head coach Mike McDaniel.

The blockbuster trade sends another round of shockwaves through the AFC West, which has seen the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders all bring in star players this offseason to attempt to knock Kansas City from its perch.

The Chiefs are reportedly scheduled to meet with free-agent receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on Wednesday as they continue to remake their offense.
