Bruins acquire defenceman Hampus Lindholm from Ducks - Sportsnet.ca

The Boston Bruins threw their hat into the contender ring by trading on Saturday for Anaheim Ducks' Hampus Lindholm, one of the top defencemen on the market, Sportsnet confirms.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports that Anaheim will a 2022 first-round pick, a 2023 second, Urho Vaakanainen and John Moore. The Ducks will retain 50 per cent Lindholm's $5.2-million average annual value.

After talks between the Ducks and Lindholm did not result in a contract extension, the team sought to move him before the NHL trade deadline, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported.

Friedman adds that Boston is working to get Lindholm signed to an extension.

Lindholm, 28, is in the final year of a six-year, $31.5-million deal and is a pending unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. General manager Pat Verbeek said in early February that he would trade the defenceman before the deadline if both sides are not able to come to an agreement on a deal.

The 28-year-old has five goals and 22 points in 61 games this season while averaging 22:32 of ice time this season.
