The NHL's playoff races are starting to heat up with the Stanley Cup playoffs right around the corner. As teams gear up for their respective postseason runs, they attempt to make some last-second moves in order to improve their standing.
The league's trade deadline wrapped up at 3 p.m. ET on Monday and there were several noteworthy players that changed addresses. The Philadelphia Flyers got the ball rolling when they traded star forward Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
The Minnesota Wild made arguably the biggest splash on Monday as they acquired veteran goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from the Chicago Blackhawks for a conditional 2022 second-round pick. In addition, the Pittsburgh Penguins got a deal done just before the deadline and acquired winger Rickard Rakell from the Anaheim Ducks.
Quite a few teams improved their rosters in a big way on Monday. Here's a look at some of the notable moves that took place leading up to Monday's deadline:
- Philadelphia Flyers traded forward Claude Giroux, forward Connor Bunnaman and forward German Rubtsov, and a 2024 fifth round pick to the Florida Panthers for forward Owen Tippett, a 2024 or 2025 first round pick, and a 2023 third round pick
- Montreal Canadiens traded defenseman Ben Chiarot for forward Ty Smilanic, a 2023 first round pick, and a 2022 fourth round pick
- Anaheim Ducks traded defenseman Hampus Lindholm to the Boston Bruins for defensemen John Moore, defenseman Urho Vaakanainen, a 2022 first round pick, a 2023 second round pick, and a 2024 second round pick
- Seattle Kraken traded defenseman Mark Giordano and forward Colin Blackwell for a 2022 second round pick, a 2023 second round pick, and a 2024 third round pick
- Chicago Blackhawks traded goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to the Minnesota Wild for a 2022 second round pick (could become a first round pick)
- Anaheim Ducks traded forward Rickard Rakell to the Pittsburgh Penguins for forward Zach Auston-Reese, a 2022 second round pick, and a prospect
- Montreal Canadiens traded forward Artturi Lehkonen to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Justin Barron and a 2024 second round pick
