The Montreal Canadiens are attempting to close out the third period and take a 3-0 stranglehold on their second-round series. The team has just announced that they will have to do so without Jeff Petry, who is out with an upper-body injury.

Sportsnet showed a replay of Petry catching the pinky finger of his right hand in a camera hole in the second period. It’s not clear if that’s the injury that knocked him out of the game, but it seems to be the most likely explanation at this point.
The injury comes at a bad time for the team, which plays Games 3 and 4 on back-to-back nights. The only good news is that the Habs held a 3-1 lead in the game when Petry was forced to leave, making it a bit easier to cope with his absence this evening, but missing him for all of Game 4 or beyond would be a tough thing for the club to deal with.
