Ohio State moves to No. 1, Georgia football holds at No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings
The big news out of the college football world Tuesday was that Ohio State had overtaken LSU as the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Georgia Bulldogs were once again slotted at the No. 4 spot, where they have spent the past three rankings.
That means that if the College Football Playoff were to start this weekend, Georgia and Ohio State would be meeting, likely in Atlanta, in the semifinals. That would be a ratings bonanza, given the following that both Ohio State and Georgia have.

Oh, and also the fact that Ohio State is quarterbacked by former Georgia quarterback Justin Fields. A matchup between these two teams might be the most intriguing possible matchup on the board.
But before you get too excited — or concerned — about facing Fields and the Buckeyes, you may want to slow your roll.
First, both Georgia and Ohio State have difficult games remaining on the schedule. The Buckeyes visit No. 13 Michigan this weekend and then could play either No. 12 Wisconsin or No. 10 Minnesota.
Georgia meanwhile has to beat Georgia Tech this weekend and then take down No. 2 LSU in the SEC championship game. The Buckeyes could maybe afford a loss, while Georgia on the other hand certainly cannot. And when Georgia and LSU met last year, the Tigers came away with a 36-16 drubbing against the Bulldogs.
But even if Georgia and Ohio State win out, the odds of them being ranked as the No. 1 and No. 4 teams isn’t all that strong. Because to get to that point, Georgia must beat LSU. And there has been a precedent of two teams going from the same conference, as Georgia and Alabama both made the College Football Playoff in 2017.
Georgia won the SEC that year, while Alabama got in as a one-loss non-champion. The Bulldogs ended up being ranked ahead of Alabama and went to the Rose Bowl to play Oklahoma. Alabama meanwhile went to the Sugar Bowl to play Clemson.
So should the Bulldogs beat LSU, Georgia likely moves into the No. 3 spot, pushing the Tigers to No. 4. Assuming Ohio State and Clemson win out, the Buckeyes would likely play LSU in Atlanta, while the Bulldogs and Tigers would meet out in Arizona.
Georgia and Ohio State would be a fun matchup, beyond just the Fields aspect. There’s also the possibility of seeing Chase Young and Andrew Thomas matchup in the trenches. Kirby Smart — one of the best defensive minds — against Ryan Day — one of the best offensive coaches in the sport. And JK Dobbins and D’Andre Swift are two of the most exciting running backs in the country.
But let’s not forget there’s a lot of football to left to be played. And the Bulldogs don’t have a slam dunk path to the College Football Playoff. So don’t start losing sleep about a possible Justin Fields-Jake Fromm rematch just yet.
Social media buzzing over Anthony Edwards
The college basketball world got a taste of why Anthony Edwards has a chance of being the No. 1 draft pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Georgia was down by 21 points at halftime and Edwards had just 4 points. He then added 33 points in the second half to cut the final deficit to 93-85. Edwards hit 7 3-pointers on the afternoon while adding 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks.
And his best play might’ve been an assist he had, slicing a pass through the No. 3 Michigan State defense.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo had some very high praise for the talented freshman.
“Boy, you got to give Antman credit, I mean, he made some shots that I wouldn’t even allow a church league team I used to play on take,” Izzo said. “And he made them, and he made them well.”

Anthony Edwards has been borderline preposterous for Georgia in the second half against Michigan State. You’ll see at least five clips from this game alone time and time again when we get to draft season in the spring.

The 37 points were a career-high for Edwards. That is the most points by a Georgia player since J.J. Frazier scored 37 points against Mississippi State back in 2015.
Georgia basketball wraps up its participation in the Maui Invitational on Wednesday when it takes on Chaminade. The next time Georgia fans will be able to see Edwards in Athens comes on Wednesday, Dec. 4 against North Carolina Central.
