How to fix the NFL's struggling (but super-talented) offenses - ESPN

I looked at the Green Bay offense as a unit on the rise heading into the season. With a new scheme under first-time head coach Matt LaFleur, I expected run-pass balance, post-snap misdirection and early-down play-action with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The explosive plays would be there. And so would the overall numbers.

Three weeks into the season, however, the Packers rank 28th in total yards per game (286.7), averaging just 197.3 passing yards. Rodgers hasn't been able to get into a rhythm -- he's averaging just 7.0 yards per attempt, and his Total QBR of 47.6 ranks 16th in the league. The Packers also haven't found consistency in their running game.

Yes, Green Bay is undefeated, but it's the defense that has led this team. LaFleur, Rodgers and the offense have to get better if they want to contend for a Super Bowl. And it starts Thursday night against the Eagles.

What can the Packers do to create more offensive production? Let's look at five struggling offenses that had high expectations leading into 2019 -- including both teams on Thursday Night Football. The issues, stats that jump out, and the fixes that need to be made to ensure more offensive efficiency moving forward:

Jump to a team:
CHI | CLE | GB | LAR | PHI

What's wrong: Opposing defenses have generated a 33% pressure rate on three- and four-man rushes against the team through three games. That leads to more defenders dropping into coverage to take away coach Matt LaFleur's longer-developing routes.

Plus, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers targeting a group of wide receivers and tight ends that lack dynamic playmaking ability and separation speed outside of Davante Adams -- and a few flashes from Marquez Valdes-Scantling -- Green Bay has struggled to find consistent rhythm in the passing game.
