Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ running back Brady Oliveira has been named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian for the 2023 CFL season, winning the vote by a margin of 57 to four over Montreal Alouettes’ defensive back Marc-Antoine Dequoy.

The 26-year-old recorded 260 carries for 1,534 yards and nine touchdowns this season along with 38 receptions for 482 yards and four touchdowns. He became only the fifteenth player in CFL history to record 2,000 yards from scrimmage in a single season and the second Canadian ever to surpass the 1,500-yard rushing mark in a single season. He was named a West Division all-star and CFL all-star.

The Winnipeg native became his hometown team’s starting running back in 2022, taking over from the legendary Andrew Harris. He has now had back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons, helping his team reach the Grey Cup for a fourth consecutive season.

Oliveira was selected in the second round of the 2019 CFL Draft out of the University of North Dakota where he ran for 2,760 yards and 22 touchdowns. He missed most of his rookie season with the Blue Bombers due to an ankle injury that required surgery. He has since been a mainstay in Winnipeg’s backfield.

Voting was conducted by 61 national members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC).
