Taylor Hall can become an unrestricted free agent after the season but the forward hopes to remain with the Boston Bruins for the foreseeable future.
"I do want to play here, not just for one or two more years, hopefully longer than that," Hall told ESPN in comments published Thursday. "I don't even know what my worth is right now, honestly. I'm not worried about my contract right now, it's something we'll figure out in the summer. I have much bigger things to worry about as a player, as a teammate."
Hall was acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres on April 12 with forward Curtis Lazar for forward Anders Bjork and a second-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Sabres on Oct. 11 and can become an unrestricted free agent July 28.
The 29-year-old forward scored 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in 16 games with the Bruins during the regular season and has scored three points (two goals, one assist) in five Stanley Cup Playoff games to help them advance to the Stanley Cup Second Round, where they will play the New York Islanders beginning with Game 1 at Boston on Saturday (8 p.m. ET; NBC, SN360, TVAS).
The Bruins defeated the Washington Capitals in five games in the best-of-7 first-round series.
"When I came to Boston, I was just going to just take things in stride," Hall said. "Enjoy every day. And it's worked out. We've won one round, we had a pretty good end of the regular season, but it showed me how fun hockey can be. And that's what I've learned here so far."
Hall scored 19 points (two goals, 17 assists) in 37 games with the Sabres but has found more success with the Bruins.
"I was eager to join a playoff team," Hall said. "I was eager to join somewhere that had good culture, and where winning was sustainable. Because I was looking for somewhere I could re-sign, not just the 20 games to end the season."
Bruins president Cam Neely said he hoped they would be able to sign Hall to a contract after the season.
"As far as Taylor goes, we're going to continue to see how things go with the playoffs here," Neely said May 12. "I think we'd like to try and get something done, but that remains to be seen. But that's our hope."
Selected by the Edmonton Oilers with the No. 1 pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, Hall has scored 596 points (228 goals, 368 assists) in 680 regular-season games with the Bruins, Sabres, Arizona Coyotes, New Jersey Devils and Oilers.
"I knew [Boston] was a great city, but I've been surprised at how much better it's been than I even thought it was," Hall said. "So hopefully it all works out."
