Rangers’ Shesterkin replaces Lundqvist in net for Game 3 vs. Hurricanes - Sportsnet.ca

Igor Shesterkin will start in net for the New York Rangers on Tuesday night as his team looks to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 24-year-old netminder missed the Blueshirts’ first two Stanley Cup Qualifier games after being deemed “unfit to play” and Henrik Lundqvist got the nod between the pipes for New York. The Rangers lost both games as the 38-year-old future Hall of Famer allowed seven goals, posting a .901 save percentage.

Shesterkin posted a 10-2-0 record in 12 starts during the 2019-20 regular season, recording a 2.52 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage.

Also drawing back into the Rangers lineup is Brendan Lemieux, who was suspended for the first two games of the series.

The puck drops on Game 3 between the Rangers and Hurricanes at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet 360.
