EDMONTON — As Winnipeg Jets star Mark Scheifele was attended to by Jets medical staff, sounds of concern migrated across the ice.
“Need a stretcher,” said the referee, indicating to medical personnel on the Jets bench.
“Scheif, stay down,” urged a Jets teammate.
“I’m pretty sure it’s broken,” said a Calgary Flames player, conferring with the referee.
“Fuck off, fuck off, fuck off,” yelled Jets coach Paul Maurice. It wasn’t immediately clear if he was yelling at Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk or the officials.
“He got him on the back of his fucking leg — look at the fucking video!” Maurice later added, this time clearly at the officials. It was a claim Maurice would repeat postgame during his media availability.
