About Last Night: Suzuki scores, Kotkaniemi's calamity, and Gallagher's grin - Montreal Gazette

The Canadiens didn’t quit on themselves with their backs against the wall Wednesday, and it was the play of a young rookie that helped them live on for another few days.

Nick Suzuki’s game-winning goal in the third period allowed the Canadiens the right to play another 60 minutes in their opening round series versus the Philadelphia Flyers.

Considering the goal was 22 seconds after the Flyers’ game-tying goal from Joel Farabee, it can be argued that Suzuki has a knack for convenient timing.

Suzuki also assisted on Brendan Gallagher’s first of the playoffs, which gave the Canadiens a 3-2 lead in the second period. Gallagher batted Suzuki’s pass out of the air and into the back of the net past Hart, an unintentional move on the youngster’s part.

“I never really want to give a pass to someone in the air. I just got too much height on it, but we all know how good he is in front of the net. He basically gets a stick on any of the shots coming in,” Suzuki said.
