Former Sarnia Sting forward Daniel Carcillo, who would go on to a Stanley Cup-winning NHL career, is heading a class-action lawsuit against Canada’s junior hockey leagues and teams, including the Ontario Hockey League, on behalf of players who say they suffered “hazing” and other abuses.

Carcillo and ex-Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Garrett Taylor filed a statement of claim Thursday with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

“This case is on behalf of underage minors who suffered violent hazing, physical and sexual assault and psychological trauma while playing major junior hockey,” Carcillo said in a statement. “I was one of those kids when I played in the OHL. I know there are many more just like me.”

Carcillo, 35, played two full seasons and part of a third with the Sting from 2002-04. The ex-NHLer has spoken often in the past two years about the abuse and hazing he allegedly suffered while in Sarnia.
