The MLBPA will hold off on taking a vote on MLB’s 60-game proposal for the 2020 season for several days in light of the league’s spring training camp shutdowns, according to USA TODAY‘s Bob Nightengale.
The closures were prompted in the wake of the Philadelphia Phillies announcing five players had tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.
Nightengale reports the players will use the time to gather information on safety and health protocols. The union’s executive board reportedly met Saturday.
Earlier today, Nightengale reported that MLB owners were wondering if they could “squeeze in” a 60-game season with the start of spring training potential bumped back to July and with an opening day no earlier than July 24-27.
