Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas was involved in an incident with his wife, Nina, last month in which she held a loaded gun less than a foot from his head, according to court documents TMZ Sports obtained.
The Austin Police Department went to an Austin, Texas home at 3:41 a.m. on April 13 after receiving a call about a disturbance. When officers arrived, they observed Nina with a knife in her hand chasing Earl around a vehicle while he had a pistol in his hand.
The authorities drew their weapons and ordered the two to the ground. They complied without further issue.
In court documents, Nina alleges Earl left their home after an argument over his drinking. She perused his social media accounts and discovered a video of him with another woman. She then found Earl and his brother in bed with other women at a rental home.
Nina claims she grabbed Earl's pistol intending to "scare him" and put it to his head. She had removed the magazine but was unaware there was still a round in the chamber, according to the police.
One of the women in the house captured cellphone video showing Nina pointing the gun at Earl's head. It's also apparent Nina's finger was on the trigger and the safety was disengaged, police say.
Earl was able to wrestle the gun away from his wife.
After police spoke to all parties at the scene, Nina was arrested for burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - family violence and was later released on bond. Earl was not arrested.
An emergency protective order was placed requiring Nina to keep 200 yards away from Earl and his alleged mistress.
The 10-year veteran and Super Bowl champion released a video on his Instagram page Wednesday night acknowledging TMZ's post about the incident.
On Thursday morning, the Ravens released a brief statement on the incident.
"We became aware of the situation when we read and saw it on the reports late last night and early this morning," the team said, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.
