NBA coaching icon Jerry Sloan passed away at the age of 78 Friday due to complications from Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
Best known as the head coach of the Utah Jazz from 1988-2011, Sloan was at the helm for the most successful period the franchise has ever seen. The Hall of Famer finished his career with the fourth-most wins in NBA history, and led the Jazz to two Finals appearances.
As a player, Sloan suited up for the Chicago Bulls for 10 of his 11 seasons in the league. He made two all-star teams and was the first Bull to have his jersey retired.
Shortly after news of his passing, the NBA world flocked to social media to mourn one of the true legends of the game.
Rest easy, Coach
