Greatest Moments of NHL Season … So Far: first round, matchup 32 - NHL.com

The 2019-20 NHL season had many incredible moments before it paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, and now fans can decide which one was the best.

The Greatest Moments of the NHL season … So Far have been placed into a bracket of 64 entries, and fans will vote on one matchup per day, ultimately deciding the greatest moment up until this point.

Fans can vote on Twitter and Instagram each day from noon until 10 a.m. ET the next day. Each day, the winner of that matchup will be revealed, and a new set of moments will go head-to-head.

Though fans will have the ultimate say, two NHL.com staffers will weigh in on the matchup each day to give his or her opinion on which one should advance to the next round.

In the matchup on Thursday, Bobby Ryan's emotional hat trick for the Ottawa Senators defeated Sidney Crosby getting his 800th assist for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The matchup Friday, the final one of the first round, pits Philadelphia Flyers fans showing their support for Oskar Lindblom against a memorable interview with the Washington Capitals' Mite of the Nite.

I love when something brings fans together, even if it's painful. It was heartbreaking to see Lindblom's season end because he was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, in December. It was heartwarming to see Flyers fans giving a standing ovation and holding up "I Fight For Oskar" cards in honor of the 23-year-old forward at the game against the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 17. I don't get to Philadelphia often, but the last time I saw a Flyers crowd united in their support and ovation for someone was when defenseman Kimmo Timonen was honored before Philadelphia hosted the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 14, 2015. There was so much love in the building for Timonen, who had retired following the 2014-15 season, and it was the same for Lindblom.

Jackson Friedlander made quite an impression during the first intermission of the Capitals game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 16. Friedlander was named the Mite of the Nite after scoring two goals in the between-periods game, but his performance in his postgame interview was even more memorable. If you were at Capital One Arena that night, you had to smile listening to Friedlander talk enthusiastically about his favorite Capitals player, Alex Ovechkin, his pet tarantula with a big appetite named Michael ("He just had two crickets on Monday, one on Sunday"), and the key to his success on the ice. "All I wanted to do was have some speed and have fun," Friedlander said. "Hockey isn't about winning; it's always about fun." The Capitals liked Friedlander so much they used him in a commercial as a spokesperson for the Caps Kids Club.
