Chanel’s spring fashion show 2020, held at Grand Palais in Paris, came to a hilarious close on Tuesday after a French Youtuber hijacked the runway to join the supermodels on their finale walk.
Videos on social media show Marie Benoliel, known by her Youtube name as S’Infiltre, clad in a hound’s tooth tweed suit and flat-top hat, climbing on to the catwalk — with considerable effort due to the combined constraints of her heels and pencil skirt.
Benoliel confidently strides off, hand to waist, despite almost knocking into one of the supermodels. The models remain outwardly non-plussed and continue their circuit, which was designed to look like the rooftops of Paris.
For a while, it seemed that Benoliel’s infiltration of the fashion industry was successful. So much so, that when security scrambled to pull her off the circuit, they had trouble even picking her out among the supermodels on the runway.
An Instagram video shows Benoliel smoothly detouring from the main runway to walk onto another ramp where she was confronted by Gigi Hadid. Hadid puts an arm around her to prevent her from walking back and escorts her down the stairs.
“I loved the show,” rapper Cardi B told Women’s Wear Daily. “I got a little scared when homegirl flew out there.”
Chanel president Bruno Pavlovsky was reportedly seen chucking at the Youtuber’s antics after he realized what was happening. According to a statement published by the CNN, a spokesperson for Chanel said: “This person is a comedian known for this type of prank. She had crashed another runway recently. Her presence on the catwalk was not planned. Security guards simply led her to the exit at the end of the show.”
Benoliel, 28, posted a screenshot of a news story on her stunt on her Instagram page, captioning the post, “Le défilé étam c’était walou à côté,” which translates to: “The Etam runway was nothing in comparison.”
Last week, Benoliel crashed lingerie brand’s Etam fashion show, dressed in silvery lingerie and a sleeping mask.
Benoliel is known by her fans for her satirical sense of humour, which often involve poking fun at the French bourgeoise by infiltrating society events.
