Freddie Mercury 'mocked' Michael Jackson for sleeping on the floor - CANOE

Freddie Mercury “couldn’t believe his eyes” when he found out Michael Jackson didn’t have a bed.

The Queen frontman worked with the King of Pop in the ’80s, and the musicians recorded three songs together during the height of careers, only for the collaborations to be shelved.

Recalling the 1983 sessions, Freddie’s personal assistant at the time, Peter ‘Phoebe’ Freestone, told Britain’s Metro newspaper he spent a lot of time with the pair at the Thriller star’s home, and would sit playing video games with Michael while Freddie smoked outside.

However, Peter recalled one moment when the Bohemian Rhapsody singer “couldn’t keep his mouth shut”, remembering of a house tour Michael gave the pair: “When they got upstairs, Freddie couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw a mattress on the middle of the floor of the King of Pop’s million-dollar mansion.

“Freddie said, ‘You’ve got money why don’t you buy a bed?’ And Michael just said, ‘I feel so much better when I’m closer to the Earth’. Freddie said, ‘Well how much closer does not having a bed make you? We’re upstairs.’”

Peter added it was “amazing” to watch the two work together on the tracks, adding: “Each of them were just giving out everything they could to create something and to be present at that sort of thing is amazing.”
