The preseason is over. Yes, it just started. You’re not imagining things.

In the NBA’s quest to return to a normal schedule in time for the 2021-22 season, the Raptors played three preseason games over seven days. Those followed a brief 86-day offseason for the team. Does the NBA know you cannot miss something if it never leaves? I, for one, cannot wait to have another conversation about declining television ratings.

I digress. The point is, the preseason was short, and now it’s done. The Raptors will have a few practices between now and the start of their regular season on Wednesday against New Orleans, but they are all out of vaguely competitive games against a moderately compelled opponent upon which to judge their roster. There are two sets of battles going on: the one to crack the rotation, and the one to grab the remaining roster spots.
