When the Blue Jays announced last week that the club had finally been given the green light by Canada’s federal government to come north and train in Toronto, club president Mark Shapiro explained that part of the lengthy process of obtaining the approval was “ensuring that basically what we were doing was creating a modified quarantine or a bubble environment to protect the public.”
With respect to the players, he insisted that “they’ve been educated. There are clear penalties in place beyond anything we would do for a violation of quarantine, which has been communicated to them, but I don’t expect those to be an issue because we’ve been talking to them from Day 1 and they understand their responsibility and the expectations coming in.”
