One day after missing the end of his club’s intra-squad scrimmage, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby did not take the ice for the team’s Sunday morning practice.
On Saturday, Crosby skated with usual linemates Jake Guentzel and Conor Sheary for the majority of the club’s scrimmage, appearing to play unhindered by any obvious injury. During the second period of the scrimmage, Crosby left the game early and did not return.
The Athletic’s Josh Yohe noted Saturday that Crosby wasn’t involved in any notable collisions and didn’t appear to be in any pain, and reported that sources in the organization don’t believe the captain is dealing with a significant injury.
Linemate Sheary said after the game that he believed Crosby was dealing with a “maintenance” issue, while head coach Mike Sullivan said the new rules for the NHL’s restart bar him from commenting on the matter.
With No. 87 out of the mix Sunday, forward Evan Rodrigues skated in his place alongside Guentzel and Sheary, while Sullivan kept his usual depth centres in their third- and fourth-line trios.
