The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense really is going to Slay this season.
The Eagles acquired Darius Slay from the Detroit Lions on Thursday for two draft picks and then agreed to a three-year contract extension with the three-time Pro Bowl cornerback worth $50 million with $30 million guaranteed, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
The Eagles will send a third-round pick (85th overall) and a fifth-rounder (166th overall) to the Lions, who had signed former Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant earlier this week.
After Trufant was signed, the 29-year-old Slay had tweeted Wednesday: “Hope that speeds up my trade process!! They need to hurry it up.”
Slay, who had one year remaining on his contract for $10 million, skipped voluntary spring workouts and mandatory June mini-camp last year while seeking a reworked deal.
Several mock drafts also have Detroit grabbing Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah with the third pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which could affect the Giants’ ability to trade down from No. 4 with a team looking to trade up for Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, such as the Miami Dolphins (No.5) or the Los Angeles Chargers (No.6).
