Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was on hand to unveil the first trailer for the first live-action “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” which has now gone online.
The series is set five years after the events of “Return of the Jedi”, the three decade stretch of storyline “that hasn’t been explored at all, except in the Extended Universe says showrunner Jon Favreau.
It’s a galaxy still adapting to the sudden fall of the tyrannical Empire with no central government and gunfighters roaming the galaxy. The series is said to be inspired by the old samurai and western movies and aims for a production quality that will match that of the movies.
Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte co-star in the series along with the voice of Taika Waititi.
Earlier in the day, Favreau told media don’t expect to see Boba Fett in it: “Boba Fett is not [in this]. They’re all-new, original characters.” That’s not to say there aren’t easter eggs for fans including a rifle from the holiday special which was Boba Fett’s first appearance: “we have lots of deep cuts in the show and I can’t wait for people who love Star Wars to see it,”
“The Mandalorian” debuts November 12th on Disney+.
