2019 NHL Draft: Results, tracker, rounds 2-7 as U.S. star Jack Hughes is picked No. 1 overall by the New Jersey Devils - CBS Sports

The 2019 NHL Draft continues Saturday with the second and final day of the event. Rounds two through seven will be held on Day 2, meaning teams still have plenty of work to do and plenty of players are still waiting to hear their name called.

Friday's first round went somewhat by-the-book. The New Jersey Devils welcomed Jack Hughes into their organization with the No. 1 overall selection. Hughes is an 18-year-old American forward who has been the most hyped prospect in years, and he comes from a family that is rooted in the sport -- including older brother Quinn, who was a first-round selection of the Vancouver Canucks last year.

After Hughes, Finnish winger Kaapo Kakko, considered the next-best player in the draft, went to the New York Rangers at No. 2, sparking what could be a re-ignition of the Rangers-Devils rivalry.

The opening round was an incredible showcase for USA Hockey, specifically the United States National Team Development program. Not only did Jack Hughes become the eighth American player to get picked first overall, but the USNTDP squad had a record eight players taken in the first round, with seven of them coming in the top 15.

You can check out some winners and losers of that opening round here.

Stay tuned with CBS Sports on Saturday to follow the action as the event concludes with the final six rounds.
